Micro-Surfacing has been utilized by state and local agencies on structurally sound pavements for decades. Micro-surfacing is a rapid-setting mixture of polymer-modified asphalt emulsion, dense graded aggregate, and other additives. When applied to an existing roadway, micro-surfacing improves skid resistance for safety, provides a quality wearing surface, and extends pavement life. Its chemical characteristics minimize user delays and make it an excellent choice for night construction. More... Slurry Seals protect and seal existing pavements from further oxidation and raveling. They extend pavement life and improve ride quality. The principal materials mixed to create slurry seals are aggregate, asphalt emulsion, and filler, according to a laboratory mix design. Then water is added for workability. This extremely cost-effective treatment provides uniform color and texture and is suitable for most low volume rural and residential roadways. More... DuraChip®, a new generation chip seal, provides higher performance in pavements that have age-related oxidation and cracking but are structurally sound. This system allows greater emulsion shot rates resulting in better sealing properties and chip retention than typical chip seals. DuraChip® is designed for higher ADT roads. More... Spray Polymer Asphalt Repair System (SPARS) is used to seal age and stress-related cracking and repair pot holes in isolated areas on sound pavement. It is a mixture of polymerized asphalt and aggregate that is applied through spray injection equipment. Its dense, highly compacted material provides an extremely durable repair as well as a non-skid surface. More... Reflective Crack Retarding Interlayer (RCRI) is an engineered process that helps retard reflective cracking. A specially formulated high polymer emulsion is sprayed on the pavement and then a cover aggregate is applied, rolled, and swept. This creates an interlayer between the existing pavement and the new pavement treatment to retard reflective cracking. More... Cape Seals are designed for pavements that may not be ideal candidates for micro-surfacing or slurry seal. Cape seals are a resilient and cost effective treatment that extend pavement service life. In the cape seal process, an interlayer is applied between the existing pavement and a new surface course consisting of micro, slurry, or thin HMA. Chip seals are an inexpensive stress absorbing membrane interlayer (SAMI) utilized in this process. More durable and resilient RCRI interlayer is designed to provide greater performance, longer service life, and retard reflective cracking. More... Overband Crack & Joint Sealing is a low-cost and effective maintenance tool that helps prevent water and incompressible intrusion into cracks. The material is applied under pressure to fill the crack from the bottom up, creating an excellent seal. It extends the pavement life cycle with minimal traffic disruption. More... Route & Seal is a practice of mechanically routing random cracking to a sufficient size and then sealing the crack with an adequate amount of hot applied sealant. More... Saw & Seal is a practice of sawing and then sealing the joint with a hot applied sealant to control transverse and longitudinal cracking on the pavement. More... Fog Seals are a light spray of asphalt emulsion applied to the pavement surface. They fill voids in the surface, sealing and protecting the pavement from the elements. This process can be used to treat existing pavement that is oxidized and may have minor raveling. Fog seals help reduce dust and add black color in new chip seal pavements. They are an inexpensive treatment that can extend service life. More...
